This kind of bone metabolic disease is commonly seen in postmenopausal women but is often neglected. Taiwan’ women averagely enter the postmenopausal stage by the age of 49. In 2009, the average life of the country’s population has extended 82.3, suggesting Taiwan’s women spent one third of their life in the postmenopausal period. Hence, to prevent from Osteoporosis should be taken as a major health issue by most people. Study Purpose: To analyze and discuss the impact of intervention of exercise on improving bone mass density (MBD) on postmenopausal women’s osteoporosis. Study Method: The study systematically reviews research papers and adopts meta-analysis. Users types in search keywords such as “osteoporosis, meno-pause, climacteric, exercise(qigong, tai-chi, yoga) and look for related research articles in MEDLINE, PubMed, CINAHL, CEPS, China Journal Full-text Database, PerioPath Index to Taiwan Periodical Literature, and National Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations in Taiwan. Meta-analysis is then conducted by reviewing the contents of articles and effectiveness of approaches. Study Results: There 89 articles in MEDLINE, 359 in PubMed, 224 in CINAHL, 38 in CEPS, 5804 in China Journal Full-text Database, 27 in Taiwan Periodical Literature, and 263 in National Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations in Taiwan matching the above keywords. After a further screening on article titles, abstracts, and full-test, there are 23 articles matching this study. We finally narrowed down the articles to 14 by selecting much-needed case criteria and data. Following our meta-analysis, we observed significant healing impact of intervention of non-medicine therapy on umbar spine BMD( g/cm2) 、distal femur BMD(g/cm2) and that of tai-chi exercise on lumbar spine BMD ( g/cm2), but no impact on lumbar spine BMD(T-score), with confidence levels range from [0.03,0.06], [0.04,0.06], [0.03,0.08], to [-0.18,0.14]. Conclusions and Suggestions: Our study identifies significant impact of intervention of non-medicine therapy on postmenopausal women’s osteoporosis, thus providing on the postmenopausal women and medical staff with more objective information and suggestions. If we promote natural exercise therapy to curb osteoporosis and its related complications, postmenopausal women’s life could be improved and social medical expenses could be saved.
