It was used sugar substitute in diabetes. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of miracle fruit on the levels of plasma glucose in hyperglycemic rats induced by streptozotocin (STZ). Different parts of the miracle fruit (exocarp, fruit and seeds) and gallic acid calibration curve were used to calculate the concentration of total phenolics, exocarp (41.7±11.0 mg gallic acid eq./g D.W.) was higher, the fruit (18.0±3.2 mg gallic acid eq./g D.W.) and seeds (13.0±2.1 mg gallic allic acid eq./g D.W.) (p<0.05).We detected the DPPH scavenging ability of different parts and different extraction methods of the miracle fruit for free radical effects. The husk in the scavenging rates have significant effects, especially in methanol extracts of the best anti-oxidation (SC50 326.56 μg/mL). The hyperglycemic rats were randomly divided into four groups, four in each, and fed with different experimental diets, part to normal control group (NC), STZ-induced the Diabetes Mellitus group (DM) , hyperglycemic rats diets Glibenclamide (DM+GC 0.5 mg/kg), and hyperglycemic rats diets miracle fruit (DM+MF 0.1 g/kg) respectively. Animals were fed for four weeks. In the response of oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Fasting plasma glucose fed miracle fruit (0.1 g/kg) decreased 74 mg/dL. In the oral glucose tolerance test in miracle fruit fed (0.1 g/kg) after 180 minutes on average to lower 126.7 mg/dL. Results show different tissue of glucose transporters 4 (GLUT4) concentration, the miracle fruit can be the inerscapular adipose tissue, soles and extensor digitorum longus muscle cells to enhance concentration of GLUT4, in which the results inerscapular adipose tissue cells increase of GLUT4 concentration. The results showed lower high blood sugar potential of miracle fruit. Horng-Liang Lay Chien-Chih Chen 賴宏亮 陳建志 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 66 zh-TW
