In order to reach the study purpose, this study used a survey method to adopt “School Caring Atmosphere Questionnaire - Student Edition” amended by Li Chi-ming (2003) according to “The School as Caring Community Profile II, SCCP” developed by Lickona and Davidson (1995) and the “Elementary School Students’ Character Performance Questionnaire” developed by the researcher as a tool for data collection.The objects of this study are the fourth and sixth grade of elementary school students in Pingtung County. The effective samples are 858 in total. According to the result of the questionnaire, the analysis of datas are operated by descriptive statistics, dependent sample variance of analysis, t-test, one-way variance of analysis, Pearson’s product-moment correlation method, and the regression analysis in multiple steps. Based on the result of the analyzed data, the conclusions of the study are written as follows: 1.Elementary School Caring Atmosphere is generally good, in which the “perception of the environment”is the highest, while the “perception of the respect”is the lowest. 2.Elementary School Students’s Character Performance is good, in which the “honest performance” is the best, but the “care performance” is still needed to improve. 3.Members of the school often affect the character performance of elementary school students with help, care, sharing good things and so on, especially the class mentors are the most influential ones. 4.Different gender, grade, school location and school size will affect elementary school students’ perception of the elementary school caring atmosphere. 5.Different gender, school location and school size will affect elementary school students’character performance. 6.Elementary school students’ perception of the elementary school caring atmosphere is better, its character performance is also better. 7.Elementary school students’ perception of the elementary school caring atmosphere has the remarkable forecast on the character performance, especially “perception of the environment”is the highest.
