This research conducted an in-depth interview method to investigate five parents’ viewpoints and practical practices. Interviewees included two high-social class and three low-social classes who had different degrees of school participations. Research results are as followings: (1) Different social class parents all agree with the importance of school participation, but differ in their interpretations of participation degrees: high-social classes parents think they should play an important role in parent involvement, and children need parents’ full supports. However, low-social class parents tend to think that they should only focus their participations in the family domain; (2) parents with different social classes have different ways of participations: low-social class parents tend to participate in a way of checking children’s homework. Some parents encounter difficulty in assisting children’s homework. High-social class parents participate in various ways, which include assisting homework, reading storybook, sending children to learn skill, encouraging children to learn new things, emphasizing academic related activities, and arranging activity for vacation; (3) high-social class parents are more active in school activities; however, these parents think that parents should not intervene school business too much. Thus, these parents’ school participations are limited to low-level of school participation; (4) low-social class parents have the will to participate in school activities; however, some parents are limited to their long working hours and cannot participate frequently. To sum up, high-social class parents are highly participated in school activities; however, low-social class parents are limited to their working and economic issues, so cannot have the same degree of participation as high-social class parents. Finally, the researcher proposes some suggestions to school teachers, parents and researchers for proceeding researches in the future. Ya-Ling Chen 陳雅鈴 學位論文 ; thesis 147 zh-TW |
