Summary: | 碩士 === 國立屏東教育大學 === 教育心理與輔導學系 === 98 === The present study explored the effect of mortality salience on the attitude toward marriage and mate selection standards for unmarried females. The subjects were 331 single females between 25 to 40 years old. Participants were randomly assigned either to the mortality salience or to the dental-pain salience condition. It was found that the effect of mortality salience varied with the ages. Mortality salience led younger females to hold more positive attitude toward marriage, but led older females to hold more defensive and negative attitude. Compared with the other age groups, mortality salience led 30-34 years old female group to compromise more mate selection standards. These results suggest that after the reminder of death, unmarried females who are still likely to get married are more motivated to seek the heterosexual relationship, thereby adjusting properly their attitude toward marriage and mate selection standards to obtain this goal.
