description 碩士 === 高雄師範大學 === 性別教育研究所 === 98 === Summary The purpose of this study is to seek the situation and the relation for threats of gender stereotypes and mathematic-related professional development for female students major in engineer at universities of science and technology in Greater Kaohsiung Pintung Area, to probe into the differences of the two items under different conditions, and the ability to predict threats of gender stereotypes towards mathematic-related professional development. This study uses questionnaire to pursue inquiry, using the self-edited “Mathematical learning experience questionnaire for female students in engineer major at university of science and technology” as tool, to study junior and senior female students that major in engineer from 98 school year at universities of science and echnology in Greater Kaohsiung Pintung area. The sum of people questioned is 795, 721people finished the questionnaire and the recalling ratio is 90.7%. With the average, standard deviation, t-test, one way ANOVA, Scheffe post-hoc comparison, Pearson correlation, multi stepwise regression and enter method to analyze the results, they are: 1. According to basic information of female students in engineer major at university of science and technology in Greater Kaohsiung Pintung Area, differentiation and integration course is not popular, when the course becomes more complex and optional, less people would take the course, female students are not keen to take math-related courses, most of them only meet the basic requirement for taking courses. 2. The threats of gender stereotypes for female students major in engineer at universities of science and technology in Greater Kaohsiung Pintung Area, “Feminine gender identity” and “Mathematical-learning circumstantial message--self” are the most influential, in other words, females students value the feminine identity and image, when they become aware of denials to their own mathematical ability from surroundings, these two elements make them feel strong threats of gender stereotypes. 3. Female students major in engineer at universities of science and technology in Greater Kaohsiung Pintung Area are not keen to develop careers in math-related fields. Comparing to choose courses, these female students repel to pursue the studies in math-related professional school or to obtain careers in math-related fields. 4. Within five different circumstance variable in ANOVA of threats of gender stereotypes for female students major in engineer at universities of science and technology in Greater Kaohsiung Pintung Area, there are differences in “Feminine gender identity”, “Mathematic field identity”, and “Threats of entire gender stereotypes” under various engineering mathematic credits circumstance, the rests stay no differences. 5.Within five different circumstance variable in ANOVA of professional development in math-related fields for female students major in engineer at universities of science and technology in Greater Kaohsiung Pintung Area, two circumstances variable—different engineering mathematic school credits and different Linear Algebra school credits, there are differences in “professional development in math-related fields”, students who take these credits are higher than who do not take the credits. 6. Threats of gender stereotypes for female students major in engineer at universities of science and technology in Greater Kaohsiung Pintung Area are influential to professional development in math-related fields, under the strong influence in mathematical field identity, even though there are unfavorable circumstantial messages to female under mathematic learning environment—low acceptance to female mathematic ability. Facing the situation where threats of gender stereotypes become stronger, female still plunge into math-related profession, however, what is noticeable is the extent is not big under this situation. 7. The threats of gender stereotypes for female students major in engineer at universities of science and technology in Greater Kaohsiung Pintung Area can predict professional development in mathematic-related fields. The results of this study are: 1. Propositions to faculties in math-related fields in universities of Science and Technology. 2. Propositions to create friendly learning to universities of Science and Technology. 3. Propositions to faculties to study Gender Equity Education in universities of Science and Technology. 4. Propositions for future studies. to create gender friendly teaching environment in mathematic fields in universities of Science and Technology.
