The aim is to offer underprivileged young people who have been misled since their youth opportunities for re-learning and turning a new page in their life. This research applied the viewpoint of ego in psychology and the theory of Mirror Stage from Jacques Lacan. By the implementation of cross-fields visual culture art education, the researcher had a closer look at the young offenders, being grouped into different classes in one juvenile rectification school, and interacted with them. Through observation, interview, and analysis of the artwork and files from one class in the school, we evaluated the students of their ego discovering through art courses. The students expressed their physical and mental torment during their growth. They would emphasize on exercising to improve their personal physiques. The yearning for their family and girl friends is also revealed in the retrospective analysis of the happy memories of the past. In the future development, besides finding ways to make a living, they also hope to fulfill their own dreams. Nevertheless, there are still a few students who are at loss in regard to their future. Most students are able to recognize, comprehend and appreciate the living styles and ways of thinking of people from other cultures. Moreover, they also indicate that art education virtually helps them to further understand themselves. Finally, the drawbacks of the study that needed to be improved were examined and pointed out. We also described our own learning experience, and compared it with that from the students, in order to depict more thoroughly of the progress in discovering “ego”.
