Retirement Career Planning and Learning needs

Abstract
This research aims to discuss the relationship between the retirement career planning and learning needs, the research objects are government employees and teachers in Kaohsiung city. The purposes of the research include: get to know the present situation of the public servants’ retirement career planning and learning needs; analyze the personal background variable’s difference between public servants’ retirement career planning and learning needs; discuss the relevant situation of public servants’ retirement career planning and learning needs; investigate what influence the different background variables and career planning of retired public servants have on their learning needs. According to the research results, specific suggestions will be provided to retired public servants and relevant work units as the reference to conduct the further study of retirement education or curriculum planning in advisory organizations in the future.
This research adopted questionnaire survey, took the retired public servants in Kaohsiung city as research samples, sent out 400 questionnaires and retrieved 386, at an effective retrieval rate of 96.5%. Through lots of processing of the collected information, like descriptive statistics, independent samples T test, one-way ANOVA, pearson product-moment correlation and two-way ANOVA, this research concludes as following:
1. The retired public servants’ performance on their career planning is above average in Kaohsiung city, among which, “self-mastery” is the best.
2. Learning needs is much necessary for the retired public servant to make their career planning, among which, “health care” is the most needed one.
3. The female retired public servant aged between 50-54, with vocational or college degree and in good health, all perform well on the career planning in local and integral view.
4. Retired public servant aged between 50-54, residing with their marriage partners and in good health, all have stronger response to the overall level of learning needs and economic planning.
5. The retired public servants’ career planning is obviously positively related to the learning needs.
Based on the above-mentioned research results, this study makes some suggestions for the government agencies and relevant organizations, retired public servants and post study for the future reference.
1. Suggestions for Government Agencies and Association of Retired Persons
a. Hold retirement education activities positively, assist to develop diversified retirement career planning.
b. Offer retirement career planning course, encourage retiree and their relatives and friends to join in.
c. Establish local retirement career planning enquiry center, hold communication activities and provide retirement career counseling regularly.
2. Suggestions for retired public servants
a. Develop an active attitude towards retirement, build positive career environment.
b. Make all-around retirement career planning as early as possible.
c. Build optimistic and active learning attitude.
3. Suggestions for post-study.
a. Research objects: broaden the research range and objects to increase
the deduction of research results.
b. Research variable: bring into other variables, such as religions belief,
job title before retired.
c. Research methods: adopt individual case interview or conduct
longitudinal research
d. Research tools: use a questionnaire, which is designed more accurately
and easier to answer to smooth the research.
