Choropleth maps can be used more frequently if these choropleth maps have better representations. As for the test sheets, the settings of the choropleth maps are changed. The changed settings include the number of classes, the size of map sheet, and the way of map reproduction, enumeration-unit divisions, and legend settings. A questionnaire was used in this study to show the differences between the perceivable number of classes for map users and actual number of classes when the settings of the choropleth maps are different. The result from analyzing the questionnaire shows that if the number of classes less then five is better and it is easier to perceive correct number of classes when the size of map sheet is bigger. Map users can perceive most correct number of classes while the map is printed by laser printers at first and then copied by Photostat. Most incorrect numbers of classes occur while maps are copied by jet printer at first and then copied by mimeograph. The level of the enumeration unit is easier to perceive correct number of classes depends on the way of map reproduction and legend setting. Beside, there are different gray curves for legend setting, which curve is better for perceiving correct number of classes also depends on the way of map reproduction.
