The sludge has to be dried in the recycling process, and using natural gas to produce heat in the rotary kiln in order to dry the sludge is one of the common techniques. Because global warming is the most critical issue in our lives, how to save energy and reduce carbon oxide emission is the main investigation in this study.
A baffle which located across on the two lifting plates was designed and studied in order to increase the turbulent heat flow inside the rotary kiln. The heat transfer efficiency inside the rotary kiln was simulated by FLUENT software, and the dimension of the baffle and the rotating speed of the kiln were selected as the two main parameters for the optimal design using Taquchi method. The result showed that heat transfer efficiency has been enhanced 21% approximately for energy saving and reduction of carbon oxide emission purposes.
