Among the toxic gases, carbon monoxide (CO) is the most significant one. Previous studies have proved that the existence of carbon dioxide and heat individually enhances the toxicity of carbon monoxide. This study experimentally examined the synergistic effect of carbon dioxide and heat in the carbon monoxide’s effect when both the carbon dioxide and heat are present. Eight mice were arranged in an enclosure to expose to temperature (20, 30 and 40 ℃), carbon monoxide with different concentrations (3000, 6000 and 9000 ppm) and carbon dioxide with different concentrations (0, 3.5, 5, 6.5 and 8 %). Time to die and respiratory frequency were measured during the tests. The FED (Fractional effective dose) model using the value of LC50 (Lethal concentration 50 %), which was measured with temperature of 25 ℃, was discussed to further study the synergistic effect of carbon dioxide and heat in the carbon monoxide’s effect. The data shows that the temperature rise and carbon dioxide concentration approach 5 % increase the number of mice which died during the exposure. Additionally, the synergistic effects of heat and CO2 retarded those expected from statistically independent causes. The toxicity of carbon monoxide affected by temperature and carbon dioxide are the same in physiology way, increasing the respiratory frequency. Therefore, considering both the temperature and carbon dioxide to revise the LC50 of CO is close to real situations. Kuang-Chung Tsai 蔡匡忠 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 70 zh-TW |
