Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄第一科技大學 === 資訊管理所 === 98 === The rise of the Internet has enabled collaboration and cooperation on an unprecedentedly large scale. The online encyclopedia Wikipedia, which presently comprises 15 million articles created by 23 million distinct editors, provides a consummate example. Contents in Wikipedia were contributed and edited not by authorities, but by users of Wikipedia. As long as one wants, one can contribute to the contents of Wikipedia. Many users spent their time and energy to devote themselves to Wikipedia. Wikipedia gives no monetary reward to its contributor, but there are more and more users sharing their knowledge to Wikipedia. This paper integrates the Media synchronicity theory, the social capital theory and the perspective of collaborative Knowledge exchange to construct a model for investigating the impact factors of people''s collaborative knowledge exchanging in virtual communities. A questionnaire is adopted for data collection and then structure equation model was applied to analyze the data. The study holds that five capabilities of media (symbol sets, parallelism, transmission velocity, rehearsability, and reprocessability) will influence the development of synchronicity and thus the successful performance of transmission capabilities and processing capabilities. We state that Wikipedia Usage will help accumulate social capital. We also argue that the exchange of knowledge that is broad-ranging, high quality, and privileged in nature, and that Wikipedia Usage will help collaborative information exchange. Finally, the social capital and collaborative information exchange will influence individuals'' knowledge creation and collaborative knowledge network in virtual communities. The results help in identifying the impact of Wikipedia usage on knowledge creation and collaboration knowledge network in virtual communities.
