In places where Japanese comics spread oversea, similar otaku cultures tend to grow up in the area. In Taiwanese comic Market, 90 percent of it is occupied by Japanese articles,.a boom similar with japanese Otaku culture also had already been raised. On th other hand, a new word “Otaku man,” which didn’t exist in Japanese was also generated locally. After massive use by mass media, its meaning is gradually differentiated from the original one. This thesis discusses Japanese Otaku related cultures; the development in Taiwan after Otaku culture was imported. also the semantic meanings and differences between “Otaku” and “Otaku man” since they are very confusing for usage. This thesis is composed of 5 chapters: Chapter I describes the research motives, methods and contents. Previous references and their relationships with this thesis are also given. Chapter II describes the origin of “Otaku,” in Japanese, its development over 20 years in Japan, and Otaku related cultures. Chapter III describes the development of Otaku culture in Taiwan, and the social image to Otaku after the vocabulary “Otaku man” appeared in Taiwan. The Otaku phenomenon generated by “Otaku man” is also discussed Chapter IV compares Japanese and Taiwanese Otaku related cultures.
