Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄第一科技大學 === 工業設計研究所 === 98 === This study aims at exploring the application of Activity Theory (AT) on product design, also investigates the interaction between users and tools. The observed object of this study is a traditional worship activity in a Taiwan temple. Worship activity shows lots of cultural features of Taiwan, and these features significantly influence Taiwanese life and are a part of that. This study takes worship activity as the research material based upon observing and interviewing the actors in worship activity, and investigates their actions and objectives. Many researchers used AT for solving life problems. However, activity theory has not fully developed yet and it needs a methodology for guiding the data gathering and interpretation process. This study has applied a methodology proposed by Mawanza (2001) to analyze the relationship between User-Tool-Objective, to investigate the role of activity elements, and to explore the cultural features in worship activity. According to the result of AT analysis, the study proposed a design model based on Activity Theory. The model may assist designers to make a practice of product design, and to generate design concepts meeting specific worship cultural features. This study proves the feasibility of AT on product design, and advances a worship cultural design model to assist designers in cultural product design. This research applied AT to analyze Taiwanese worship activity in a Taoist temple, then generalized the findings into main points of worship cultural product design, proposed a design process that fit for AT, and finally generated many meaningful design concepts meeting specific cultural worship features. Furthermore, according to the results of evaluation, we generalized the characteristics of the design concepts generated from the applications of the cultural product design process. These generated design concepts would have the specific features, outlined as follows: 1. These concepts meet specific cultural features and meanings of worship tools, such as, the features of forms, meanings, image, and the features of the role of tools. 2. Some of these concepts meet specific worship cultural norms. These norms become particular features and rules to affect user behaviors, and also arouse users’ experiences about worship cultural norms. 3. These design concepts can be accepted by the users who live in the same cultural context. Besides, the concepts may be a trigger that aroused memories and experiences about worship culture of users.
