The shopping mall had a call of the largest comprehensive market, appealing to lots of visitors during the opening and impacting on the neighborhood traditional markets. "Traditional markets", consumption field existing in Taiwan's traditional memory, not only offers the necessary provisions for the people's livelihood, but also supports the economic survival for the markets. This space is a consumption field and a center to exchange information and contact the feelings as well as interpersonal communication. The topic of the research is to explore what kind of impact and how Yi-Lan traditional markets cope with after the shopping mall enters. This research through the space structure theory uses space element structure, organization, logic and construction process to discuss the historic evolution of the Yi-lan district, and gets the first-hand information to analyze by in-depth interview and spot observation. According the research, people’s shopping behavior in the Yi-lan region is influenced mostly by the form of merchandise, procurement mobility, consumption environment, emotion and memory, the elasticity of price and procurement time. The traditional markets have the following strengths:flat-type profile of the distribution and street patterns, better accessibility and mobility, more fresh goods, selection and bargaining room, the emotion and trust by consumption for a long time, high-interpersonal communication, and less restrictions by the public’s work hours. However, the sanitation, waste and traffic problems are the most criticism. Under the competition and impact of the shopping mall, except for fresh fruit and food part, the government should preserve the sense of history of the traditional markets, and revive the vitality through the urban planning and appropriate way to change.
