Lacquer-ware in Han Dynasty was the first peak with long-term development in the history of Chinese lacquer-ware craft. In Early Western Han Dynasty, the lacquer-ware was excavated in Hubei and Hunan mainly; in Middle and Late Western Han Dynasty, the lacquer-ware was excavated in Yangzhou and its surrounding areas mostly and intensively; the approximate feature of lacquer-ware in Han Dynasty was shown accordingly.     Lacquer-ware in Han Dynasty used to be daily commodity in people''s life, which were bound to show people''s social and cultural values as well as awareness of the beauty at that time. In culture and art in Early Western Han Dynasty, the Chu-Han Culture was derived from the same origin, and it was the extension and development of the Chu Culture in the Warring States Period; the veined decorations were filled with symbolic phoenix symbols. Once a theme of vein pattern showed up, it would showed up continuously, forming a kind of artistic tradition. As the politics and economy were united and the cultures were integrated, under the influence caused by the concepts such as the advocacy of Huang-Lao Art, the pursue of forever young life, and the transformation into celestial beings, Cloud Design became widely popular in the art decoration in Han Dynasty.     This study intends to explore the forms and the contents of veined decoration of Phoenix Design on lacquer-ware in Han Dynasty, as well as its evolutionary internal connection with Cloud Design, to seek the creativity of art belonging to the decorative vein patterns on Chinese lacquer-ware. Therefore, this study has begun with the origin of lacquer-ware in Han Dynasty, and then proceeding with the exploration of epigraphs, craftsmanship, and vessel shapes of lacquer-ware in Han Dynasty, so as to understand the production process of veined decoration of lacquer-ware in Han Dynasty. The main axis is based on the contents, types, principles of design, and appearances of evolution regarding veined decoration of lacquer-ware in Han Dynasty. Furthermore, through the styles of veined decoration of lacquer-ware in Middle and Late Western Han Dynasty excavated in Yangzhou area, the process of the evolution of Cloud Design has been analyzed and discussed in depth.
