Summary: | 碩士 === 國立花蓮教育大學 === 諮商與臨床心理學系 === 98 === According to the career construction theory perspective, this research aimed at understanding the high school students’ experiences and the meaning of career indecision. It also tried to understand what kind of vocational personality the students constructed, how they met their career adaptability, and why they uncovered their life theme.
Four senior high students participated in this study: i.e. two boys and two girls. The researcher conducted a specific depth interview with qualitative assessment of career and semi-structurally open-ended questions. The context of their stories was recorded word for word. The research approach adopted the holistic-content narrative analysis method. The results of study were found as follows:
A. Participants in vocational personality for constructing were (1) actively organized their ability, needs, values, and interests, (2) valuated their own careers; and (3) linked self-specialty and majors or jobs they chose with the view of their personal subjectivity.
B. Participants in career adaptability were (1) to care about their future majors or jobs, and to enhance their ability to plan by get themselves well-prepared and involved actively, (2) to see the career construction as their own responsibility and consult with their family to decide their future majors or jobs, (3) to realize their own interests and ambitions and collect any information of university and job actively, (4) to believe they are risk-takers who can accept challenges, overcome difficulties, solve problems, and make educational and vocational choices.
C. Participants in the career themes were (1) to understand the meaning of their motivation and the energy when choosing majors, (2) to narrate their own life theme of psychosocial change experiences which however still not integrate.
Finally, limitations and concrete suggestions of this research were provided as reference for further studies.
