碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 民間文學研究所 === 98 === Abstract There are a lot of eminent and vivid pieces of folk literature presented and depicted down through generation by generation accompanying to the long run of the current by Chinese history. Among those works the stories of clever daughter-in-law with their feminine cleverness had been stated not only in a large number of folk tales but also widely spread around the countryside. All of the folk tales concerning the clever daughter in-law are mainly cited in the ways of how to deal with the affairs occurred in ordinary family living, or to resolve the various troubles arisen from the interactions among those married females. The paper here makes a focus on its topics as “how the clever daughter-in-law to settle the troublesome” and meanwhile describe each story in details for characteristic analysis and discussion on various aspects in a series of successive six chapters, which are compacted as follows: Chapter1. The forwards: including the definition of the story, the predecessor papers concerned, and the research motivation, purpose, method used and even its fields. Chapter2. Assembling the stories which belong to a catalogue as “reducing the serious situations with skillful talking” Chapter3. Collection another stories which obviously show “critical troubles being disappeared from smooth interactions between the play roles involved” Chapter4. Selecting a series of stories as “breaking the riddle troublesome with intelligent arts” Chapter5. To discuss the various elements appeared on the stories of clever daughter-in-law where the narrative structure relative to plot linkage has been analyzed, at the meantime the roles functions played with its particular characteristics developed from the performance figures are also described, furthermore the cultural symbolization of the stories has been well evaluated in details. Chapter6. Conclusion: To summarize all of the interesting and attractive features running through the various stories of clever daughter-in-law and finally show the research results on brief statements.
