In order to achieve the ubiquitous communication under different kinds of heterogeneous wireless communication environments, the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) provides underlying architecture for the next generation wireless communications. Host Identity Protocol (HIP) is one kind of new protocols which separates the host identity from the host position information. When a mobile device is roaming on wireless networks, the change of IP address would not cause the interruptions of session connections. Meanwhile, the maintenance of the host identity would not lead to distant paths for packet transmission. Here, we propose a new architecture - HIP_IMS that combines Host Identity Protocol and IP Multimedia Subsystem to improve the handoff performance while the mobile nodes moves to a foreign network.
