They usually have the networking functionality, can be exchanged with the users or other equipments to process information. These devices throughout the house, and coordinate with home server management and control system to constitute the digital or smart home environment. In general, the digital home environment will have many different brands and types of information appliances. However, they followed by different manufacturers of digital home standards. So these devices don’t have effective interoperability. It’s also inconvenient for user to learn various control method. The purposes of this study are to bring the concept of ubiquitous computing into the digital home, to integrate the services provided by heterogeneous home appliances , and to provide a simple interface that allows users to obtain services easily. We use the service adapter to convert heterogeneous devices to pervasive services, and mount them to the home server. We also store the internal and user-defined information of these services into the database on the home server. It can achieve the classification and management of these services. Final, We design an universal remote controller to allows users to query and control pervasive services. In our experiments, we choose UPnP appliances and infrared appliances to do conversion. We can sum up a guideline of service adapter and user interface for other standards service. DLNA device is an example.
