Summary: | 碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 身心障礙與輔助科技研究所 === 98 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the communication ability through Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) for a junior high school student with moderate intellectual disabilities in a special school. The participant of this study was a 14 years old female student. The independent variables were three AAC training programs including teaching communication symbols, the low-tech AAC training, and the high-tech AAC training. The dependent variables were communication abilities including learning communication symbols, sentences expression by low-tech AAC, and sentences expression by high-tech AAC. The single subject of the changing criterion design was used in the study. In order to demonstrate the effects of AAC training programs, the researcher collected the data from participant’s expression in school, home and convenient stores around community. Social validity using interview with related individuals was also supplemented in the study.
The results of this study were as follows:
1.after the implementation of teaching communication symbols, the participant learning communication symbols was improved and maintained.
2.after the implementation of low-tech AAC training, the participant’s sentences expression using low-tech AAC was improved and maintained.
3.after the implementation of high-tech AAC training, the participant’s sentences expression using high-tech AAC was improved.
4.using AAC in the real context including school, home, and the convenient stores around community, the generalization effects of communication ability was improved.
