However, the development of automotive headlamp applications using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is at a bottleneck due to the lack of market demand and the increasing production cost etc., therefore, the main purpose of this study is to use a Delphi Method and an Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to establish an assessment criteria for using LEDs on automotive headlamps. The empirical studies result show that factors influencing the applications LEDs automotive headlamps are as follows, namely, general costs light-emitting efficiency, cooling methods related to LEDs and patent portfolio to ensure production. In particular, market demand, product manufacturing and national technology policies are also referred as major factors in the findings from Delphi rounds. The contribution of this study is not only to explore the key technological constraints related to LEDs automotive headlamps applications, but also to integrate the diverse points of view from industries, research institutes, universities and market professionals. As a result, we develop a multiple assessment criteria and its weights from AHP for LEDs automotive headlamps applications.
