The oxidation potentials of porphyrin and p-phenylenediamine were obtained by cyclic voltammetry (CV). The oxidation potential and wave changed by titration between porphyrin and p-phenylenediamine. The spectral change was investigated by using optically transparent thin-layer electrode (OTTLE). The interaction between different oxidation states of porphyrins and p-phenylenediamine are discussed. When the PD is oxidized, it interacts with porphyrin core by forming hydrogen bonding. It exhibits new bands in the UV-Vis spectra, and this new band is a strong evidence of interaction between oxidized PD and porphyrin. We calculated the extinction coefficient by Beer’s law, and the formation constant between porphyrin and p-phenylenediamine by UV-Vis spectra and redox potential change. Yuhlong Oliver Su, Ph.
