This study aims to integrate Zigbee and RFID (Radio-frequency identification) technologies into a mold management system for automotive lighting industry. A dual-mode mold management system is developed to improve the performance of mold inventory, mold tracking and mold data collection in a distributed environment. RFID technology features single-point sensing and inexpensive when deployed within a limited space. While on the other hand, Zigbee technology allows wireless transmission through a long distantance, and that overcome the limitation of RFID in data collection. Cloud computing concept and Web service technology are applied to implement the dual-mode mold management system for enhancing timely information feedback in multi-fab environment during production process.
