The goal is to organize the design steps of a highly complex system. Employing Pahl & Beitz systematic design process, this study started from clarification the design task, establishment of the required specifications, generation and evaluation of the design conception, and determination of the definitive design and its detailed design. The whole design project was then completed and produced the design documents.
The design process of an optical inspection machine starts from discussing with customer. Based on the required functions, its specification including the type of machine, working space and movement procedure is then determined. The whole system can be subdivided into several modules or sub-systems and their appropriate primitive layouts are then generated. If any mistake or improper point were found, the alternative design concept or layout is then evaluated. The iterative method is proceeded to a definitive design is obtained.
The objective of this thesis is to establish a systematic process of designing an optical inspection machine. By employing Pahl and Beitz design method and collaborating with customer, manufacturing people, and other engineering departments, the design changes and time duration will be reduced. The goal of a design work, such as an optical inspection machine, can be effectively achieved.
