The main structure of the adjustable shock absorber includes an adjusting element within a conventional shock absorber. An adjusting element is designed to adjust the damping aperture so that to change the damping coefficient. The adjusting element is embedded in the rod of the shock absorber piston. A stepping motor is applied to drive the adjusting element. It controls the rotation of the adjusting member within a cylinder, thereby adjusting the amount of hydraulic fluid which bypasses the damping passage between two hydraulic chambers and hence achieving the desired damping coefficient. For proving this design, a test experimental setup we built to measure the performance of the continual adjustable shock absorber. Finnaly, the designed shock absorber is set up to the suspension system of the 1/4 car. To improve the riding comfort and driving quality, two fuzzy controllers based on skyhook method and Rakheja -Sankar method are designed to control the semi-active suspension system, individually. The experimental results show that both controller can reduce the displacement of car body and PSD. In addition, the Rakheja - Sankar method fuzzy controller can give more driving quality on random road. Ming-Chang Shih 施明璋 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 69 zh-TW
