Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 建築學系碩博士班 === 98 === Sustainability has become an essential issue for environmental design. There has been growing attention on developing new mobile vehicles, transportation systems, and networked city in the area of ecological, urban, and architectural design. This thesis provides a concept of “Peddling Architecture” based on the revolution of mobile vehicles, road systems, and ecological networks. Peddling Architecture transforms “a bike city” by developing micro-architecture in city nodes and connecting the nodes of bicycle roadway systems to form a city's ecological network. Following the ecological network of the bike city, a vision of future sustainable city is presented. The concept of Peddling Architecture is explored by analyzing a variety of bike spaces. Micro-architecture is appropriately designed to develop simple, yet complex, architectural spaces that are considered as networked nodes of a bike city. The networked space is expected to provide new city experience. After exploring the concept of Peddling Architecture, a bike city is chosen for design implementation. Kaohsiung City has rich waterfront space in Taiwan. After highly industrialization in brown field, many unique features and memory traces of the past left in Kaohsiung City. For example, Kaohsiung waterfront has abandoned railways along the entire coast and harbor freight. After several radical urban renewal, the city government returned the land to the people, a whole line of railway connected in series with the port becomes a strong Railway characteristics Harbor Line bike path. The new bikeway system, not only plays the role of original urban space, but also provides an ecological environment for leisure and entertainment. This design work takes advantage of the new bikeway system as an infrastructure. Some simple function buildings, such as public toilets, community spaces, and public leisure spaces are designed to foster the identity of the place as urban nodes. A new waterfront district, along with the development of a new bikeway system and network urban spaces, is attempted to provide an ecological harbor life in Kaohsiung towards a sustainable city.
