Summary:碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 建築學系碩博士班 === 98 === As the first port settlement in Malaysia, Melaka has represented the multicultural heritage of East Asia, South Asia and West Asia. Dutch built a well-designed port city for the merchant who came from the east and west to Melaka since Age of Exploration and the Chinese population had increased progressively during late Dutch colonial in Melaka. The orientation of this study is to integrate the urban form of the past, present Melaka based on the records and site surveyed after Melaka inscribed on The World Heritage (UNESCO) in 2008. The contents are as follow: 1. Natural environment and historical background : Within its strategic location and stable climate, how Melaka strait became the most important trading route between east and west and the most favorable port city along Malay Peninsula. 2. Formation of the Melaka Based on historical views and external references, this thesis will further analyze the formation of Malacca street’s fabrics was influenced by its geographic condition such as location, natural environment and climate. 3. Formation of chinese old town in Melaka This Thesis will study and analyze the formation of the chinese old town in Melaka and special factors that formed the streets, lots and division, and their special characteristics after Dutch colonial. 4. Physical environment and spatial contents of today shop-house The researches have been carried out to analyze today shop-house condition, such as form, function and its physical environment which are the main topic in this chapter.
