Three full-scale exterior joint specimens, including one non-ductility specimen and two reinforced specimens with different fiber’s direction in the joint region were tested in this study. All specimens were tested by a MTS hydraulic jack in this study. A new optical technique, digital image correlation technique, was used to measure displacement and strain fields. The test results showed that CFRP can improve the stiffness, strength, and energy dissipation capacity of the joint. Specimens JE1 and JE2 can be observed plastic hinges; which means CFRP can be used to improve the joint that the type “strong beam and weak column” to “weak beam and strong column”. A modified model was proposed to predict the column shear stress of the joint. Comparing the test and analytical value, they agree well with each other.
