Summary: | 碩士 === 明道大學 === 課程與教學研究所 === 98 === The study explored the implementation of 5E inquiry teaching in the life curriculum of the first grade students. It was intended to show the changes of the students' inquiry competency as well as how the instructor conquered the problems throughout this action research. The qualitative data was collected by course observations from recorded audio and video, interviews, writer documents, instructor’s reflection notes for constant comparison and triangulation analysis. Sixteen 1st graders in 2009 academic year of an elementary school in Changhua County participated in the case study. The inquiry instruction with action research included three teaching units. The research findings are summarized as follows:
1. Through three cycles of action research, the researcher has constructed the 5E inquiry teaching for three units by using the main strategies: (1) raising questions; (2) group discussion; (3) reporting results of the discussions; (4) creating performance works or music rhythm; (5) evaluation or appreciation.
2. After implementing the inquiry teaching for three units, the students’ competency of identifying questions, designing plans, carrying out experiments, explaining, communi- cation and argumentation can be promoted.
3. Throughout the action research process, the instructor can continually reflect and improve teaching quality that can help the instructor not only to realize the ideas of teaching practice but also to gain the growth of inquiry teaching profession.
