The following reports, documents, books and the dissertations about his calligraphy work have been published in recent years, including an island-wide calligraphy work exhibition in 2004, titled “In memory of Mr. Chen Ding-Qi after the 10th anniversary of his death,” organized by his disciples. Even though the news and research about his work could be discussed from various aspects, and they somehow contribute to the understanding of his calligraphy work. I am, personally, very blessed to be Mr. Chen Ding-Qi’s disciple for more than ten years, from 1980 to 1993. Such particular experience has offered me an opportunity to have a closer observation on the essence of the art of his calligraphy writing. To be different from others, who tend to discuss his work from the aspect of the styles of writing and its’ art , my dissertation, instead, will be focused more on the process of his creating and how his calligraphy work was creatd. As his disciple, I appreciate the chance to study calligraphy from him, and I would be my best to explore the process of his creating and analyze the way how his works were created, for the benefits of future calligraphy learners. After motives and the introduction of his life, as usual, follow the basic concepts of Chen Ding-Qi about calligraphy , then is the principles of beautiful calligraphy following by Chapter five ‘The analysis of Chen Ding-Qi’s skill in calligraphy ’ which is the essential parts of this dissertation. Then are the characteristics of his work and the final. Owing to the delicate analysis in detail to the overlook of his work, we may get a better understanding as a whole.
