The process of design in the professional field includes design project in all levels, the overseeing of product development, and the most important of entire design process—concept development, where the decision made by designers will change how future process pans out. Therefore, perfect designs could inspire designers into new associations during concept development, yielding more creative designs that include “six writings”. This study first discusses the historical literature of six types of characters for the foundation of design application. Then, through interviews, it goes on to explore the suggestion and modification for such design theory from experts, and provide the revised six writings design. Finally, such design method is introduced in the context of design by way of experiments, so we could observe how designers react to the method transformation by letting respondents develop and draw up the concept sketch. For the application of six writings design, this study produces “applying concepts” and “application essentials”, where the former gives designers the comprehension of design principles in which they could brain storm on concept development. As for the later, it laid down the tips for concept development, where designers could follow the concept and essentials with a total of 18 application methods for design references, including 5 types of pictographic, 3 types of ideographic, 4 types of ideogrammic compounds, 2 types of radical-phonetic characters, 2 types of derivative cognates, and 2 types of phonetic loan characters. In the hopes of providing a design application guideline, the research results aim at facilitating designers’ innovation during the concept development process.
