Consequently, the business globalization and internationalization become very important. Owing to narrow lands, high population density and limited natural resources , many enterprises in Taiwan engage in foreign direct investment actively to enlarge market size, enhancing their international competitiveness so that they can survive continuously. The main purposes of this study include: (1) discussing the determinant of direct investment by Taiwan''s industries in the USA. (2) discussing whether the industry''s characteristics of the listed companies in Taiwan Electronic Industry affect policies of investing in USA directly. First, the data period of the first purpose is from 1971 to 2008. With regard to investing capital, we mainly take Taiwan''s and American''s macro variables into account. We use Pooled EGLS to conduct empirical analysis. Second, in firm-level, we employ1990-2008 the maximum sum of investment of Taiwan Electronic Industry from Investment Commission of MOEA to understand the determinant of Taiwan''s direct investment in the USA. We use probit model and logit model to study the impact on firms'' characteristics for the investment decisions by panel data. Above all, we attempt to analyze the impact on the direct investment by Taiwan in the USA. Besides, we hope we can explain the determinant of the direct investment by Taiwan industry in the USA from a viewpoint of firm-level. Consequently, this study will provide a policy implication concerning the policy of outward direct investment for Taiwan government.
