Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄應用科技大學 === 國際企業系 === 98 === Due to the development of globalization, many firms hope the shipping lines could provide various transportation services, instead of maritime transportation service only. In consideration of shippers' demands for better services, vertical integration becomes one of shipping liners' major managerial strategies. The study aimed to explore a case study of Yang Ming Line. First, the study analyzed the current situation of liner shipping industry. Secondly, the effects of vertical integration on Yang Ming Line's competitive advantage were examined.
The results showed that ports and terminals as well as foreign subsidiaries could bring competitive advantage to Yang Ming Line. On the other hand, inland truck and logistics could lower the costs, but affected Yang Ming Line’s competitive advantage little. Moreover, the priorities of the development of the integrated business units are different. For example, inland truck, with the smallest scale of development, has less significant effect on competitive advantage. Therefore, least motivation of development will be generated in this aspect.
