Up to now, dozens of leading chemical enterprises have not only dominated the global chemical industry but also showed a balanced distribution of global resources. This study aims to analyze how a number of enterprises come to gain advantage over their opponents to achieve success under the volatile and competitive business circumstances. Analysis about key success factors playing a role in the advantage of each enterprise is also included in this study. The research method of this study consists of two stages. The first stage involves giving a personal interview to four global chemical companies, one telephone interview included. Based on the secondary data and interviews mentioned above, the key success factors arranged in hierarchy are thus established. On the second stage, the relative importance of the key success factors in managing a global chemical industry is analyzed through the AHP(Analytical Hierarchy Process). This study has found that the key success factors leading to sustainability of global chemical enterprises can be enumerated based on the sequence of importance in the following order: “R & D investment”, “production efficiency”, “communication and coordination”, “internal control”, “resource control”, “organization management culture”, “production technology”, “innovation and R&D”, “local raw material advantage” and “performance evaluation”. Companies with an aim to achieve significant development and allocate resources properly may take the result into consideration when making future strategies.
