Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄應用科技大學 === 工業工程與管理系 === 98 === The 21st century is a period of the increasingly competitive international market with intensified trade conflicts between countries. In addition, the ever renewed technology and the increasing popularization of the Internet have brought a massive amount of information into the open. Taiwan entered WTO in 2002 to promote free trade, gradually turning the originally regional markets into a global market, while also turning domestic competition into global competition. It has resulted in the gradual shortening of the life cycle of various products, in turn forcing businesses to modify their traditional production model, and to keep track of the new demands and new products in order to respond to the rapid changes of the market. In order to keep abreast with the ever-changing market trends, companies must quickly digest the related information they possess, while transforming from passively responding to the demands of customers, to proactively predicting and managing customer needs. Therefore, many businesses began to enthusiastically implement information technology systems such as Supply Chain Management (SCM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Business Intelligence (BI), in order to integrate all of the internal and external information and improve their company operations.
The economy of Taiwan mainly relies on export, with the many competitors that businesses face coming from all over the world. This is especially true for the traditional appliances industry. Taking the appliances industry as an example, upstream suppliers have to face more rapid elimination and innovation of products within the downstream marketplace. This has forced the upstream components manufacturers to nimbly respond to the ever-changing demands of the market. Therefore, their production processes must be converted to the just-in-time model, while manufacturing different products based on the different needs of customers, in order to adapt to the rapid response mechanism of the global market.
This study mainly investigates the application of business intelligence to support the decision analysis made by high-level management of the appliances industry, taking a certain appliances company in the South (referred to as Company Y) as the main research object. Company Y encompasses factories in Renwu Township of Kaohsiung, Hemei Township of Changhua, Jiading, Shanghai, and the town of Hengli in Dongguan. The analysis of heterogeneous data generated from the ERP information system in the Greater China Region made use of application tools such as Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and SAP Xcelsius 2008 for data transfer, data processing, and data analysis and to provide data analysis results and an easy-to-learn human-computer interface, which has manifested as an excellent decision support system. The acquisition of daily business operations data was also done in real time, and then turned into charts and diagrams as the resources for decision support to the management, to facilitate the commanding of the operations in different locations, while providing further analysis and improvement, thus lowering the operation cost of Company Y and improving its competitive advantage.
