Monitoring and Analysis of Methane Emission from Wetlands inSouthern Taiwan

碩士 === 崑山科技大學 === 環境工程研究所 === 98 === In this study, methane air-quality and release flux are monitored for wetlands in southern Taiwan. Four types of wetlands are used as case studies: natural coastal wetland (as Siu-Trao Wetlands), natural inland wetland (Hu-Lu-Pi Wetland), artificial coastal wetla...

Four types of wetlands are used as case studies: natural coastal wetland (as Siu-Trao Wetlands), natural inland wetland (Hu-Lu-Pi Wetland), artificial coastal wetland (Wan-Li Wetland), and artificial inland wetland (CNPST Wetland). In methane air-quality monitoring, various methane, non-methane hydrocarbon (NMHC), and total hydrocarbon (THC) are discussed to understand the distribution in the atmosphere around wetlands and to compare the difference with neighboring EPA monitoring stations. The samples were collected from December 2009 to July 2010. Results indicate several findings. First, the average atmospheric methanes are 2.0, 1.9, 2.0, and 1.8 ppmv for the four wetlands: Siu-Trao, Hu-Lu-Pi, Wan-Li, and CNPST Wetlands, respectively. Their respect methane of neighboring EPA monitoring stations are 1.8, 1.9, 1.7, and 1.7 ppmv for the four stations: An-Nan, Hsin-Ing, Tainan, and Ren-Wu stations, respectively. Second, the release fluxes are 0.23-0.48 and 0.31-0.90 mg/m2/h for Siu-Trao and Hu-Lu-Pi Wetlands, respectively. The fluxes are slightly higher more than other wetlands in Taiwan. The in-situ monitoring data and their further analysis may be helpful for accounting to the contribution of methane in wetlands. In addition, this study suggests long-term and continuous monitoring projects are necessary for realizing the dynamic and variation of methane in wetlands.
