To prevent casualties from direct lightning strokes, the lightning rod will be installed on most buildings. The lightning surges are drawn into ground through the lead wires and great transient ground potential rise (GPR) is resulted. The GPR will then endanger the human life and equipments performance. The ground potential rise on ground grids will be influenced by grids characteristics (shape、area and earth resistance) and lighting surge characteristics (rising time、magnitude and drawn location). Also these characteristics need more attention for ground grid design. In this thesis, the ATP package is used to simulate the transient voltage of ground grids caused by lightning strikes. Simulation cases include different lightning struck location、ground grids with different spans. Finally, the transient electricity safety for human caused by the lightning is studied.
