For small and medium enterprises that look forward to the massive opportunities, venturing in Taiwan seems to be a case of opportunities and risks. This study aims to explore the factors which influence the performance of small and medium enterprises in Taiwan.
Based on the review of related literature, this study follows a resource-based perspective and adopts viewpoints from a number of researchers on social capital, entrepreneurial orientation and strategic position. It is proposed that the degree of entrepreneurial orientation of the entrepreneurial team and the strategic position of the company have a moderate effect on the relationship between knowledge-based resources and social capital, on one hand, and the performance of small and medium enterprises in Taiwan, on the other.
This study utilizes a survey research method, small and medium enterprises in Taiwan as the research sample. The research collected a total of 51 effective samples. The statistical analysis of the study is used to explain the relationship between the knowledge-based resources, social capital, entrepreneurial orientation, and strategic position of the company and the performance of small and medium enterprises in Taiwan.
The major findings of the study are as follows:
1. The magnitude of knowledge-based resources has a significant impact on the performance of small and medium enterprises in Taiwan.
2. The magnitude of social capital has a significant impact on the perfor-mance of small and medium Enterprises in Taiwan.
3. The degree of entrepreneurial orientation of small and medium enter-prises in Taiwan has a significant moderate effect on the relationship between knowledge-based resources as well as knowledge-based resources and the performance of small and medium enterprises in Taiwan.
4. The strategic position of small and medium enterprises in Taiwan has a significant moderate effect on the relationship between social capital and the performance of small and medium enterprises in Taiwan, and it also show a significant moderate effect on the relationship between knowledge-based resources and the performance of small and medium enterprises in Taiwan.
