The issue of emotional intelligence becomes very popular in many areas, especially in medical science and managerial fields. However, there are few researches which focus on the association among emotional intelligence, empathy and clinical skills, especially for medical students. This study utilized the cross-sectional design and collected data via structural questionnaires. Research samples were based on medical students and regions studying at a regional medical center in the southern Taiwan between December 2009 and March 2010. A total of 104 medical students submitted completed questionnaires. This study mainly focuses on: (1) the differences of medical students’ demography variables in emotional intelligence; (2) the correlation between medical students’ emotional intelligence, empathy and clinical skills. The results of the study showed there was no significant association between emotional intelligence and medical students’ demography. Students with higher emotional intelligence were more likely to have more empathy. There was no association among motional intelligence, empathy and clinical skills.
