Most complications have been seen were fracture and debonding. However, the failure mechanism of the porcelain laminate veneer was not clarified. The aim of this study was to investigate the stress distribution of different designs of porcelain laminate veneer with finite element method. Three different designs (feather, buttjoint and chamfer) were simulated with 3-D finite element model. The force was simulated three situation:(1) functional occlusal force (2) parafunctional force (3) traumatic force. The “chamfer” type of preparation has higher stress compared with “feather” and “buttjoint” designs. The maximum principal stress was occurred when traumatic force carried out.
