Description
Summary:碩士 === 弘光科技大學 === 護理研究所 === 98 === The objective of the research is to study the effects of health education programs on indwelling urethral catheter for patients’ caregivers. The experimental data was collected from 80 caregivers from August 2009 to February 2010 in Taichung County and Taichung City. Forty caregivers were randomly assigned to the experimental group and another forty to the control group. For the experimental group, the intervention includes health education multimedia video discs and health education handbooks while there are only health education handbooks for the control group. The pretest is a self-designed assessment of caregivers taking care of their patients who use indwelling urethral catheters at home. The post-test was performed immediately after the intervention for the first time and two months later for the second time. The data was statistically analyzed by Excel and SPSS 12.0 using generalized estimation equation (GEE), chi-square test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation according to the framework of this study. The data shows that (1) the scores of the experimental group are 38.13 for the pretest, 79.28 for the first post-test, and 95.51 for the second post-test; the scores of the control group are 38.88 for the pretest, 64.63 for the first post-test, and 58.13 for the second post-test. The experimental group shows significant increase in scores as compared to the control group (p = .00). (2) For the completion rate of the evaluation forms two months after the intervention, the experimental group shows significantly higher rates in blood pressure (t = 2.70, p = .00) and fluid intake (t = 3.10, p = .00) than the control group. Study results show that the intervention is effective in improving the home care skills of caregivers taking care of patients who use indwelling urinary catheters. In the future, the health education multimedia discs can be applied with traditional health education handbooks in the field of home care to provide caregivers complete and specific health care guidance.
