This study is to research the usual criminal types of religion based on theories of criminology. The main point is to explore the special properties and the criminal techniques of religious crime, analyzing the psychology and the behavior of religious criminals and victims, the environment and the society which caused religion crime, and to present the feasible ways to prevent religion crime. I hopes that this research has led to results which have educational and alert functions.
The most common causes of religious crime are adherents who have no deep understanding of their own belief, and whom were cheated by people who harbor evil designs. Another situation is that the followers overly worship and dread the leader of the religion, or a follower has sense of belonging and responsibility after he or she joins a religious group. These adherents may be taken advantage of vicious religious groups when they are the members.
The victims’ attitudes are critical to the development of cases of religious crime. Apathy and reticence to speak out make religious crime possible. It causes perpetrators to use the same techniques in crime. Thus, it is important to first understand these factors in order to be able to prevent religious crime.
