In 2009, analogue IC design in Taiwan bucked the trend in 2009, amid an economic downturn, by posting 5% growth to US$1,050 million in production value and increasing worldwide market share to 4.8%. The Taiwanese analogue IC design houses have been accumulating knowhow over time, working closely with domestic system manufacturers for product development and grabbing market shares with localized services and low prices. This is why the sector has been enjoying a stable and strong growth momentum. In Taiwan, IC design houses and foundry occupy different parts of the value chain, forming a mutually beneficial relationship. This paper examines the business model of high-tech firms and discusses how fledgling companies and analogue IC houses still striving to survive should adjust to the business environment, utilize their resources, leverage their competitive advantages and business models to seek growth and profitability. This paper studies the analogue IC design houses in Taiwan with a literature review and summary of the constructs and indicators of key success factors based on the in-depth interviews with experts. Afterwards, this paper confirms these key success factors with the Delphi questionnaires and finally derives the weights of different factors with AHP method. The result is a list of the key success factors for analogue IC design houses in Taiwan. This paper consists of five sections. Section 1 gives an overview. Section 2 is dedicated to a literature review. Section 3 describes the research method. Section 4 is the empirical analysis of the key success factors of the analogue IC design industry. Section 5 provides conclusions. The research finding shows that there are eight key success factors. In the order of weights, they are technological developments, materials and financial planning, marketing capability, human resources, production and sales. It is hoped that the research results can serve as a reference to resource allocations and business strategies.
