This study used quantitative research as research orientation. A “librarian social image questionnaire” was self-designed as a study tool to study the general public via the internet. The summary is as follow: 1. The main social objective of traditional libraries is to preserve human ideologies; including playing the role of recorder and keeper of knowledge, which led to a social image of traditional librarians preserving culture. 2. Diversification and professionalism will be the social image of librarians in the information age. 3. Personal interaction is the main source of the general public’s professional image of librarians. 4. A librarian’s professional competence is the most important factor that influences the people’s view on the social image of librarians. 5. The general public believes that the top priority of librarians should be to help readers. To improve the service efficiency, it is most important to strengthen the librarian’s professional information skills, and through the method of on-job training, strengthen professional skills and knowledge of other disciplines in order to maintain a competitive advantage and working enthusiasm. 6. Ideal image of librarians as "patient" and "friendly", "very carefully", "very cordial," "methodical work"; librarians in the public mind the actual image of the sequence are "patient "and" a little old, "" things organized, "" friendly, "" very cordial. " Based of the above conclusions, this study aims to identify methods to enhance the image of librarians, and have come up with eight recommendations. 1.Emphasis on service engagement and attention to positive image. 2.Strengthen the relationship with the media. 3.Strengthen the professional skills of librarians. 4.The establishment of professional certification system for librarians. 5.The establishment of student ethics and the spirit of service. 6.Librarians should be creative and learn humor. 7.Librarians should strengthen their professional knowledge. 8.Librarians should be avoided at the counter seemed busy. 林呈潢 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 169 zh-TW
