Description
Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 法國語文學系 === 98 === This thesis is based on narratology for analyzing the narrative techniques of the novel and the film. The original novel of Henri Pierre-Roché Jules et Jim in 1953 and the adapted film directed by François Truffaut in 1962 are used as the examples. Three main aspects are discussed in three chapters : Chapter I starts from the “narrative mode” of French narratologist Gérard Genette, in order to clarify the narrative perspective in the novel and to find out the narrator in the novel and its functions. Next, the personages in the novel are classified by the “schéma actantiel” of French semiologist A. J. Greimas, which can also serve to analyze the structure of the novel. Chapter II follows the narratology in the field of cinema and tries to discover all the elements containing the narrative function in the film according to the basic theory of Chinese narratologist Lee Shian-Jie. Regarding the filmic personages, this chapter uses the hypothetical “schéma actantiel” discussed in chapter I as a fundamental analysis of the relations between the personages in the film and the narrative structure. Last, chapter III combines the research results from the first two chapters to compare not only the analogy but also the difference between the original novel of Jules et Jim and the adapted film. Besides, this study concerns the questions of the adaptation of Jules et Jim after its transformation and recreation.
