Summary:博士 === 逢甲大學 === 中國文學所 === 98 === This paper aims to study Mr. Ma Yifu’s thoughts regarding the classics and his Confucian concepts within the contemporary context of Neo-Confucianism in the twentieth-century. In addition, his scholarly work on the cultivation of the mind will be discussed, including his distinctive combination of Zhu Xi School and the School of Wang Yangming. The paper will further survey the inescapable results of his thinking based upon his fulfillment approach, in order to portray Ma’s position and views in regard to carrying on the tradition of Chinese Neo-Confucian classics in the twentieth-century. The overall key context of the discussion is as follows: The paper will begin with an explanation of the research motivation, as well as an outline of the bibliographical materials, and methodology. Through the perspective of the historical background and the academic thinking during Ma’s time, the paper will then explore the development of his personal characteristics and cultivation of ideas to highlight Ma Yifu’s unique personality. His ideological characteristics: the amalgamation of Confucianism, Buddhism, Daoism, as well as Chinese and Western culture, will also be assessed in order to demonstrate the rich heritage of Ma’s thinking. Subsequently, the paper will concentrate on the core concepts of Ma Yifu’s metaphysics following the concepts of the Confucian school. The goals will be to investigate the construction of his philosophies, including: self-cultivation of mind and gongfu, and his views of the “Fu-Xing Academy of Classical Learning” as the ideal place for fulfilling cultural value and ontological learning. The overall contribution and cultural values of Ma Yifu’s Confucian philosophy and classics will also be assessed. Lastly, the research will be concluded by pointing out certain possibilities for future studies.
