The fundamental of cutting time is a function of cutting parameters which are dependent on process means and process tolerances. Through the recent developments in computer hardware and software, the integrated approach consisting of computer simulation and statistical method has become applicable. In this study, with removal geometry configuration being specified, the computer simulation is performed by existing CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) software such as CATIA (Computer Aided Three dimensional Interactive Application). The simulated outputs are analyzed by statistical methods, such as Response Surface Methodology (RSM), to obtain the predicted cutting times, the optimal cutting parameters, and the statistical analysis. The contributions with presented approach are: (1) the optimal process mean and process tolerance are determined simultaneously before manufacturing process is actualized.
