It can measure heart rate and oxygen saturation in real time, and carries out a long term recording for evaluating the cardiopulmonary function.The light pulse signal through finger tip is detected by a photoelectric probe. The signal is sent into computer through the line-in port. The analog-to-digital convertor of sound board digitizes the signal for further processing by notebook computer. The computer can only use battery as the power supply to fulfill the electrical safety requirement. The comparison with a commercial pulse oximeter shows the heart rate traces of two machines are consistent. The difference of oxygen saturation values are within ±2%.The results of step exercise test and sub-maximal exercise test on six normal subjects show that those who have better physical fitness have lower resting heart rate and faster heart rate recovery. The long term monitoring test during sleep is able to accurately record the variation of heart rate and oxygen saturation. These functions make it suitable for home care usage.
