However, the structure of cast iron is heavy and it may cause some problems for long-term operation from the point of en-ergy-consumption. In this study, we try to proceed the lightweight analysis of circular loom cam by modifying the cam shape/size and selecting light-weight materials, so as to achieve the purposes of cost and energy saving. The analysis results reveal that the current cam shape/size is not over-designed and the room for lightweight is less. However, selecting aluminum alloy AC8A to replace the cast iron can significantly reduce the weight for the existing cam.
